2011 Grammy Nominations surprises and snubs: Lady Gaga, Sade, ‘Glee’
53rd Annual Grammy Awards, finally, have their own candidates, and - as tradition - there are some real UXO Shockers and pleasant surprises in this list. Here is a breakdown of what we found in the popular categories of music, from Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, Ray LaMontagne, and Esperanza Spalding.Click here to check out the popular music of the candidates, but for the full, the entire list.
Album of the Year "should appear with an asterisk to his name, believing that it is simply enable the" collection of songs Roughly Length Album "and" ER "waltz right there. Katy Perry has made several memorable singles this year, but - as I wrote in my review - Katy Perry does not really make great albums. And, perhaps, voting academy felt bad that the "Fame" has not won in 2009, so that Lady Gaga in "Monster of Fame" gets a pass, before she even released a set of real sophomore . Patience, voters, you can pamper her all you want after "Born This Way" drops.
... That is a good butt-kissing should be issued in 54-second ceremony, given the "Bad Romance" has not received a nod in the Record of the Year. Do not get me wrong - "Nothing to You" from Bob and the golden boy of this year's Bruno Mars is very, very, very nice song. But this is a music store to the local Quik Trip in comparison with juicy muscle memory of singing "Hurrah-Hurrah-ah-ah-ah-ah-Roma Roma-ah" aloud.
But, hey, how 'bout that Bruno Mars? It does not hurt that the man co-wrote Cee Lo Green "F * CK You" / "Forget You", but you should have known something was when he came on stage to perform twice. Seven nominations, and a monster.
A garden does not receive a great album, song or recording nod - just pop performance in a group or Duo, and R & B Performance Group or Duo, for "Babyfather" and "Soldier of Love", respectively. In the latter category, she and her team to two cover versions of songs and keep track of Chris Brown, so it feels a bit like a pity award dominate.
Concert version of "Halo" Beyonce does cut for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance? Is not that how to bypass the thousands of unique, freshly prepared meals for some decent leftovers from two years ago?
It's a little uncomfortable, that the train, "Hey, Soul Sister" only got one nod. And it was for a concert version, go figure. Another shocking realization that the Grammy-law does not always work in tandem with the popularity. NO. WHAT. Popularity. QUESTIONS. RIGHT. Grammy?
[More after the jump ...]
Popularity was not a lot of elements from Ray LaMontagne's "beg, steal or borrow, the" wild card "Song of the Year. Although many of the predictions put Mumford and Sons" Little Lion Man "in this slot, the soul / rock singer, finally withdrew his first nomination .
Melinda Newman as predicted, there were no outstanding strange acts that have crept into the album of the year, but there is Neil Young - a bit more surprising - Jeff Beck, everywhere, at a rock song and rock album category. Elton John and Leon Russell snuck into one for Pop Collaboration with Vocals. Eric Clapton, which I forgot something else up to these days, scored a nod to Rock Vocal Performance (along with another live performance of the song, Paul McCartney on the Beatles "" Helter Skelter ").
Esperanza Spalding is Adele this year, with people demanding that their keyboards in amazement at just who the hell she is. It's a pleasant surprise, cooked in a yawn worthy unsurprises from Drake and Justin Bieber.
I mention this is nothing but respect and love, and I know the difference between these two artists: Miranda Lambert, and her fans should be grateful that in September 2009 to September 2010 blackout period for Taylor Swift. Listen to me, I swear ... I just do not think that the Grammy voters have room in their brains for two young female artists of the country at one time, and if the stars are not aligned as they are, these votes would be divided into Swifter, as they did before. This is a great triumph to see Lambert on top, as she is now, too, is another pleasant surprise.
That being said: Do not listen to Academy of Country Music? They even like country music? Do not they call their cousins in Nashville? It is crowd sources genre whose kingmaking dwells exclusively on visual impressions, drawn up over time? Jewel, really?
And while we're on the subject did not listen to things, I can squint my eyes and hard rock and metal category will appear in general the same as 15 years ago. Iron Maiden, Megadeth, Slayer ... STP, Ozzy, Soundgarden, the guys from the Foos and QOTSA ...
Two Columbia artists made it into the Best Alternative Music Album: Broken Bells (Danger Mouse and the Shins "James Mercer) and the Band of horses. Band of Horses before the indie-Sub Pop. Shins were nominated in 2008 in the same category as" Grammy ", and lost. And once on Sub Pop. These two actions against the three albums from independent artists (depending on your definition of "independent"): Arcade Fire, Black Keys and Vampire Weekend. I feel a tingling intensity.
Musical tribes Big Boi and Janelle Monáe as a creative city put out records this year, but only managed to get Monáe album nod. Outkast rapper just appeared as co-Executive Director of Urban / Alternative Performance category "Tightrope" (with Monáe) and as co-performer on the rap performance by a Duo or Group "Shutterbugg" (with Cutty). It's a little shocker voters preferred R & B / pop tastes Bob Drake, and for best rap album. He is still called "rap", is not it?
Robin and La Roux for a dance record? Yay. No Kelly Rowland? Boo.
Re: "Glee" with two nods? And Susan Boyle for ... anything? I would rather return to your academy more metal, and country records than watch TV. "Do not stop Believin" and "I Dreamed Dream" has moved many copies, but I just laugh and laugh to hear someone Stevie Wonder or Madonna and Barbra Streisand Sting Annie Lennox read the title "Glee's" from voting.
53rd Annual Grammy Awards will air February 13.
